Sand is a granular material made up of fine mineral particles and small remains of animals and plants. It is a naturally occurring, finely divided rock and is comprised of particles or granules. An individual particle in this range size is termed a sand grain. Sand is commonly divided into four categories based on size and use: Masonry Sand, Bank Sand, Sandy Loam and Torpedo (Sharp/Concrete) Sand. Bank Sand is a local river or creek sand which varies in color from tan to white and may include a small percentage of clay. Bank sand packs down well and is used in leveling yards and for creating a base or foundation for a landscape project.
